This rare set of dated and signed bookends features Abraham Lincoln seated with a book on his lap and his son Tad standing beside him. Tad was his fourth and youngest son. Tad died of heart failure when he was eighteen although he did outlive his Father. This set is a tender tribute to Father and Son. Each bookend stands 7 1/4" tall, 4 1/2" wide, 2 3/8" deep and weighs 2 lbs. 7 oz. (4 lbs. 14 oz. for the pair). They are in good condition with some finish loss. They are made of cast iron. Authenticity is assured as both are signed by the artist P. Muller on the front left bottom corner along with the date of 1922. The back is stamped MP who would be the manufacturer and a name which we cannot decipher.
