'BIG CAT' Jaquar antique bookends bronze Michele DECOUX France

This exceptional, extremely rare set of bookends feature one of the big wild cats, perhaps a Jaquar, Leopard, or, Cheetah. One bookend is the front, the other the rear. Each bookend stands 4 3/4" tall, 6 3/8" long, 2 3/4" deep and weighs 4 lbs. 1 oz. (8 lbs. 2 oz. for the pair). They are made of solid bronze on a marble base. The cats are in excellent condition. The base has one chip out of the bottom where the backplate meets it and some minor chips and blemishes. Authenticity is assured as it is signed DECOUX BRONZE FRANCE on the inner leg. Both bases are etched with FRANCE. Michele Decoux (1837-1924) was from Belgium originally. She moved to Paris during the Art Nouveau period and specialized in bronze animal sculptures with a focus on the 'Big Cats'. This pair is an fine example of her amazing talent.
