This is an extremely rare set of bookends featuring the much beloved 'Good Fairy'.  'The Good Fairy' was the creation of Jessie McCutcheon Raleigh who was commissioned to make a design for the 1916 World's Fair. Her design was 'THE GOOD FAIRY' statuette. When seen in profile one side is a girl, the other a boy. Adorable. Later, there was a poem written about 'The Good Fairy'.  Each bookend stands 7 3/4" tall, 4 3/8" wide, 2" deep and weighs 1 lb. 8 oz. (3 lbs. for the pair).  They are in very good condition.  Authenticity is assured as both have 'THE GOOD FAIRY' incised on the front base and the original Pompeian Bronze Company paper label is still on the bottom of one of the bookends.  This set is polychromed with some finish missing on the books that are lying on the base. These antique bookends were made using the much coveted and highly collectible bronze-clad method of production which utilized electricity via an electrode built into the plaster mold of the subject piece. Bronze was then electroformed onto the plaster mold. This was extremely innovative in the 1920's. Unfortunately, it was also very costly for labor and materials. Some bookends could take as long as three days to be completed. They created some of the most detailed and sought after bookends we have today. They're getting quite scarce to find in good condition since they are somewhat fragile.
