'SPANIEL DOG W/ RABBIT' antique bookends JENNINGS BROTHERS
- Item #: 2366
- Manufacturer: Jennings Brothers
This spectacular set of antique bookends featuring a Spaniel dog carrying a rabbit is beautifully detailed as is typical of all the Jennings Brothers metal arts. Each bookend stands 41/2" tall, 6 1/8" long, 2 5/8" wide and weighs almost 2 lbs. (4 lbs. for the pair). They are in very good condition with some finish loss to the gold dog. There are cracks, dents, or, repairs. Authenticity is assured as both are marked JB1319 on the inner thigh of the dogs and both still have their original paper labels on the bottom.
Jennings Brothers was one of the foremost manufacturers of high quality bookends and other art metal products from the late 1800's through the 1940's. We have never seen an inferior product from them. The detailing and finishes are consistently superb. A truly fine company that has proven the test of time. Their pieces are extremely collectible. They were located in Bridgeport, CT. One of the primary reasons for their value is they could not make their products using machinery because of the delicacy of the techniques used so they were done by artists and craftsmen. The resulting efforts are immediately realized when you find Jennings Brothers items today as the finishing is superior to most of the metal arts companies. Few compare to this quality.
