LADY ON SETTEE art deco antique bookends J. B. HIRSCH CO.
These extraordinary bookends feature a very sophisticated woman sitting demurely on a large alabaster seat. She appears to be clapping in response to a performance. Magical. The faces and hands are both original and made of the much coveted 'ivorine' which was a special type of celluloid used in the early 20th century as an alternative for the genuine ivory used in many European art works. J. B. Hirsch captivated his buyers with his American made metal arts products utilizing the French Art Deco styling. This set is a fine example of his creations. Each bookend stands 6 1/4" tall, 5 1/2" wide, 4" deep and weighs 3 lbs. 7 oz (6lb. 14oz. for the pair). They are in very good condition.
